On Saturday, 19 May 2018, the arbitration community lost Mohamed Madkour, Partner and Head of Arbitration at Ibrachy and Partners (‘I&P’), who passed away at the age of 38 following his hospitalization in Paris. Prior to joining I&P he practiced law at Crowell & Moring LLP, Cairo office, Al-Kamel Law Office, and a number of leading international law firms in Paris.

The sad news stunned the whole legal community in Egypt as well as on the international level; the CRCICA mourned Mohamed Madkour on its website and social media pages citing statements of major practitioners who were fond of Mohamed Madkour and witnessed his notable rising in the field of international arbitration and most importantly his values and ethics. His passing away was also reported by the Global Arbitration Review on 5 June 2018.

Through his short career, Mohamed Madkour received remarkable professional recognitions:

[Mohamed Madkour is] very strong in arbitration, excels in finance and investment disputes for multinational and large domestic clients. (Legal 500)

[Mohamed Madkour of Ibrachy & Partners is a highly respected practitioner who is especially recognized for his work in domestic arbitration cases. He is often sought out for his specialist expertise in Islamic finance disputes. (Chambers and Partners)

Few are those who can leave such a profound impact after a short yet honorable life. On 16 October 2016, Thomas Clay organised an event held by the University of Versailles and hosted by the ICC in its premises in Paris to promote the international arbitration LLM in the honour Mohamed Madkour’s soul and in presence of his family members.
